Professor Levent Altinay

Altinay is the Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Oxford Brookes Business School. Altinay’s research interests are in the areas of entrepreneurship, strategy and international business. He is particularly interested in the social outcomes of tourism and hospitality. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Service Industries Journal (Impact Factor, 7.4; CiteScore 19.2. Q1 Journal). Altinay was a member of the Business and Management Panel in Research Excellence Framework, Year 2021, in the UK. He was also a panel member  of the Business & Economics Panel in Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Years 2014 and 2020 in Hong Kong. He sits on the editorial boards of more than twelve journals including Journal of Business Research, Tourism Management and Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management. Altinay has a strong record of attracting blue chip external funding, including funding from the EU, Horizon, ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council), Newton, British Council and the British Academy. Altinay has co-authored strategic management, entrepreneurship and research methods textbooks.

Professor Levent Altinay’s workshop will reflect on the experience of successful (not) funding applications from prestigious funding bodies including EU, Horizon, ESRC (Economic Social Research Council), Newton, British Academy and British Council. The workshop will discuss creative idea generation and the development for research funding applications, formation of multidisciplinary research consortiums,  use of networks, research design, and dissemination of research findings and the generation of academically robust, practically meaningful research impact. More specifically the workshop will share the experience of funding applications on a wide range of project topics including Technology and visitor experience; Ethnicity and Entrepreneurship; Older People Wellbeing, Hospitality and Social Connectedness; Refugee Integration and Hospitabeliness. During the workshop, Professor Altinay will also share recommendations for further research/funding applications addressing timely and contemporary topics in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality.
